Sematic UK Limited
Sematic UK are based in Wombwell, South Yorkshire and are a subsidiary of the international Sematic Group, a world leader in the elevator components market with headquarters in northern Italy.
The company was incorporated in 1987 originally with the objective of supplying goods for the UK and Northern European market. At the time the facility was organised to assemble and distribute products as well as offering a full range product support.
The evolution and growth of the business quickly allowed Sematic UK to achieve a significant share in the home market whilst launching an assault on the Scandinavian market. This resulted in the UK subsidiary becoming not only a manufacturing and sales company but also the front line for the distribution of products manufactured by its parent company.
The doors made by the company fulfil the requirements of a very demanding market, in terms of the variety of applications and durability, particularly when faced with adverse climatic conditions such as dust, salt, humidity, heavy rain and in other environments at risk of vandalism such as those in public areas like railway and underground stations.
The company endeavours to use as many recycled products as possible – notably steel and packaging as well as working with local suppliers for all of their major sources of raw materials – steel, wood and packaging. Where possible, the company uses energy efficient equipment and is extremely conscious with regard to pollution and the removal of noxious and environmentally hostile substances.
In 1998 the company moved and expanded from Bradford into their current premises increasing its manufacturing capacity accordingly. It no longer simply assembled goods, but manufactured a complete range of products designed specifically for the increasingly numerous and wide-ranging demands of its customers, especially those based in Central and Northern Europe.
The company felt the time was right to change auditors from a larger firm where partner contact, support and response was reducing, to a firm that provides a more appropriate level of support, responsiveness and client care.
With Trevor Lodge as client partner having satisfied the group directors of the firm’s commitment and ability to provide the full range of audit, accounting and taxation services required to assist the managment team of both the parent company and the UK company to achieve their future goals Robertshaw Myers were appointed in 2003.
The UK Managing Director Stephen Brunton is delighted with the move and this is supported by the group and company chairman Roberto Zappa based in Italy.
In 2009, the company received the coveted Queens Award for Enterprise in the international trade category. Rohan Day project managed Sematic’s application process from start to finish as part of the firm’s commitment to providing a fully integrated bespoke client service. Rohan comments that the application process was time critical and involved considerable input from the company’s managing director. The operational results of the company are an indication of its success and are especially satisfying for the group: in the last three years Sematic UK has doubled its turnover and demonstrated an extremely consistent export quota. These results underline the success of the initial project which originally led to the company’s creation.
